Katie’s Clothes Co.
Even from a young age, I was always enthusiastic about fashion and viewed clothing as a means to express myself. I would experiment with different styles and trends and others would frequently ask where I bought my clothes. My interest in fashion led me to be voted Best Dressed in middle school and high school. When I found myself unemployed during Summer 2020 due to Covid-19, it was my love for fashion that sparked the idea of selling my own clothes.
Eventually, what began as a way to rotate unwanted clothes from my closet evolved into a full business production involving hours of procurement, designing, and providing consumer services. The pandemic gave me the unique opportunity to start my own business from home, turning my passion into a creative means of income and enabling me to develop essential business management skills.
Promotional Designs
Every week, I curated themed collections and created designs to promote my shop and to build excitement for potential customers.
I focused on different elements and principles of design for each promotion, often playing with color and adjusting the opacity to emphasize certain parts. To create interest, I experimented with various styles and layered elements, such as flat-lay images and different fonts.
Collaborations With Other Shops
One way that I grew my business was through collaborations with other shops, specifically through live sales using Instagram’s Live feature.
To create excitement for our followers, I created designs to showcase the different items that would be available for purchase. Similarly to my own collections, each live sale had its own theme which influenced the types of pieces being shown and the overall feel of the design.
